The Erasmus Mundus Joint Master's (EMJM) programme in Agricultural, Food and Environmental Policy Analysis (AFEPA) is a joint programme (120 ECTS) for students interested in the economic analysis of agricultural and environmental policies.
AFEPA offers a joint curriculum by four main partner universities: Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore (UCSC) in Italy, University of Bonn (UBonn) in Germany, Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU) in Sweden and Université Catholique de Louvain (UCL) in Belgium.
The Master‘s programme facilitates mutual learning and offers a genuine international learning experience to students at least at two main partner universities. Our graduates are prepared for leadership positions in the fields of agri-food and trade policy, environmental and natural resource policy, agribusiness and market research and analysis, and development policy.
AFEPA Programme Key Details
Eligibility: Open to students from all over the world who hold a bachelor's degree in Agricultural Economics, Economics, Agronomy, or a related field.
Duration: Two years, with studies taking place in at least two of the participating universities across Europe.
Field of Study: Focused on Agricultural, Food and Environmental Policy Analysis.
Host Institutions: Universitá Cattolica del Sacro Cuore (UCSC) in Milano, Italy; Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität (UBonn) in Bonn, Germany; Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU) in Uppsala, Sweden; Université catholique de Louvain (UCLouvain) in Louvain-la-neuve, Belgium.

Programme Description
The programme focuses on economic analysis, but with a strong multidisciplinary component. By the setting of criteria of admission and by courses in advanced microeconomic theory and quantitative methods, the programme provides the basis for applied policy analysis founded on state-of-the-art economic models and econometric tools. The AFEPA Master’s programme offers complementary, specialized teaching and research expertise of professors from several universities for the analysis of agriculture, food and environmental policy issues within a unified framework exposing students to policy traditions in different European Countries.
AFEPA Programme Structure
The 120 ECTS credits required to obtain the Master’s degree of the AFEPA programme are structured into three blocks:
A minimum of two semesters of studies (60 ECTS credits) at a first main partner university.
Two semesters of studies (54 ECTS credits) at a second main partner university (including Master’s thesis)
Two joint summer schools (6 ECTS) at partner universities

The language of instruction is:
English for: all the courses at SLU, UBonn and UCSC, most of the courses at UCLouvain and UPC

Fees
The four partner universities impose different tuition and administrative fees for European students and students from outside EU. In addition, the AFEPA consortuim may ask for additional fees for the annual summer school. Click on the button below to download the fees details document.
Eligibility Criteria
Nationality: Open to students from all over the world.
Educational Background: Applicants must hold a bachelor's degree in Agricultural Economics, Economics, Agronomy, or a related field.
Academic Requirements: Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent academic degree of minimum three years of undergraduate study corresponding to 180 ECTS credits with a grade of at least an overall average “B”, or equivalent grade
English Proficiency: Applicants must demonstrate strong proficiency in English, typically proven by standardized test scores like TOEFL or IELTS or Cambridge.
