📚 Fellowship Overview
The IRF program aims to strengthen independent African peacebuilding research, enhance knowledge visibility, and make evidence-based insights accessible to policymakers and practitioners. Fellows are expected to engage in field-based research and analysis, producing work that contributes to regional and global peacebuilding discourses.
🧩 Program Structure & Activities:
Field Research: 6 months of in-country research focused on African peacebuilding issues
Analysis & Writing: 3 months for data synthesis, publication, and knowledge dissemination
Workshops: Two mandatory APDD workshops in July and January across Africa, designed for refining research methods, presenting findings, and networking with other fellows, senior academics, and practitioners
Knowledge Contribution: Fellows contribute to APDD publications, including Working Papers, African Peacebuilding Policy Review, digital forums, blogs, op-eds, and podcasts
Networking & Mentorship: Fellows join a network of African scholars and practitioners, gaining mentorship from senior experts in the field

✅ Eligibility Criteria
Citizenship & Residency: Must be an African citizen residing in Africa
Academics: PhD holders (no earlier than January 2016) with full-time faculty or research positions at African universities or research institutions
Policy Analysts/Practitioners: Master’s degree holders (before January 2021) with at least 5 years of relevant research/work experience in peacebuilding
Research Commitment: Must dedicate the full 9-month period to the fellowship and participate in workshops
