A.S. Hornby Educational Trust Scholarships at University of Exeter

The A.S. Hornby Educational Trust is announcing that Up to ten (10) fully funded scholarships are available to students who meet the University of Exeter’s admission’s criteria for the MEd TESOL Programme for September 2025 entry.

Designed to support capacity building for English language teaching in low- and middle-income countries., these scholarships are aimed at experienced teachers and related professionals who have demonstrated potential to impact and enhance the field of English language teaching and learning in their home countries.

 

A.S. Hornby Educational Trust Scholarship Overview

  • Value: Fully funded scholarships covering tuition and other related expenses.

  • Eligibility: Applicants must be nationals of and work in countries defined as Least Developed, Low Income, Lower Middle Income, or Upper Middle Income according to the OECD DAC list (PDF).

  • Experience: A minimum of three years of full-time TESOL teaching or related professional experience after the first degree.

  • Study Program: The scholarship is only available for the MEd Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) programme

Entry Requirements

1. Citizenship: Applicant must be a resident of, and work in a country, defined as Least Developed, Low Income, Lower Middle Income, or Upper Middle Income according to the OECD DAC list.


2. Academic Qualifications: Applicants must hold an undergraduate degree (with grades equivalent to UK upper 2nd class honours or higher) or a relevant postgraduate degree.


3. Programme: The scholarship is available for the MEd TESOL Programme at the University of Exeter.


4. Work Experience: You must have a minimum of three years’ full time TESOL teaching or related professional experience after your first degree.

 

Application Process

1. Submit Postgraduate Application: First, complete the University of Exeter application form for admission to the MEd TESOL programme.


2. Obtain Exeter Student Number: Once admitted, you will receive an Exeter student number.


3. Complete Scholarship Application:

Submit the Hornby Scholarship application form with your Exeter student number.


4. Covering Letter: During your application you'll need to write a covering letter of no more than 1,000 words addressing 3 specific questions about your teaching experience and how the MEd TESOL programme will help you address challenges in your context.
