Amgen Scholars Asia Program 2025 at National University of Singapore

The Amgen Scholars Asia Program 2025 is an exciting opportunity for undergraduate students from the Asia region to engage in a fully funded summer research experience. This program is designed to inspire the next generation of innovators by providing hands-on research opportunities at some of the world's leading educational and research institutions.

 

Amgen Scholars Program Overview

The Amgen Scholars Program offers undergraduate students hands-on summer research opportunities at top institutions globally, aiming to inspire future innovators. Launched in 2006 in the US, 2008 in Europe, and 2015 in Japan, it now includes the National University of Singapore. The program focuses on nurturing students committed to advancing their careers in biology or related sciences through graduate studies, featuring eight weeks of intensive research in biomedical and biotechnological fields, primarily provided by faculty from the Department of Biological Sciences and Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine at NUS.


In addition to working full time in the laboratory for 8 weeks, the program also features:

  • Interaction and guidance from leading faculty research mentors

  • Information sessions on Graduate Program opportunities with the National University of Singapore

  • Weekly colloquiums and seminars where students can meet and interact with visiting scientist

  • Access to campus facilities such as the Library, University Health Services and Sports Centre

  • Learning journeys and social excursions

 

Benefits and Financial Coverage

• For International Scholars

  1. Accommodation: Arranged by the National University of Singapore.

  2. Travel grant: up to SGD1500 to cover airfare to Singapore from home country and from Kyoto back to home country after the symposium via the most direct economical route.

  3. Stipend: SGD6000 for the 8-week covers all living costs during your summer program such as local transportation, meals, etc.

  4. Visa application: TEP applications will be initiated by the National University of Singapore and fees will be covered.


• For Local Scholars

  1. Accommodation: Local students are to stay in the accommodation for the duration of the program.

  2. Travel grant: Round trip airfare to and back from for the Amgen Scholars Asia Symposium will be arranged and covered by the program.

  3. Stipend: SGD6000 for the 8-week program

 

Eligibility Criteria

Amgen Scholars Asia Program applicants must be undergraduate students who are:


  • Enrolled in colleges or universities in Asia that award a bachelor’s degree (or its equivalent); and

  • You must be interested in life science research mainly in the biotechnology and biomedical domains.

  • At minimum, have completed their first year of undergraduate study at the time the summer program begins; and

  • Are not graduating before the summer program begins, and after the summer program ends will resume undergraduate studies for at least one semester or one quarter.

  • Have a good working knowledge of English, demonstrated by a minimum TOEFL (iBT) score of 72, IELTS overall band score of 5.5, or equivalent.

  • An interest in pursuing a Ph.D.

Application Procedure

To apply for the Amgen Scholars Asia Program 2025 at the National University of Singapore, you will need to submit the following documents during your online application:


1. Student Status Letter: An official letter from your university with your enrollment status, degree program, and candidature period.


2. Transcript: An updated English-translated transcript from your university.


3. Curriculum Vitae (CV): A one-page CV including your educational qualifications, research experience, and technical/software skills.

4. Personal Statement: A one-page document explaining your interest in the program, your research interests, and what you expect to learn.


5. Proof of English Proficiency: A valid English proficiency test score (e.g., TOEFL, IELTS, Cambridge English, TOEIC).


6. Referee Reports: Two recommendation letters from faculty members who know your research and potential best.
