The Luxembourg Centre for Contemporary and Digital History (C²DH) at the University of Luxembourg invites one exceptional scholar at risk to continue their research in a secure, interdisciplinary environment in early 2026. 🎓 Scholarship Summary

  • Location: Luxembourg (residence in Luxembourg or the Greater Region)

  • Host Institution: Luxembourg Centre for Contemporary and Digital History (C²DH), University of Luxembourg

  • Programme Type: Short-term research fellowship (non-degree)

  • Target Group: Scholars at risk (e.g., those facing threats of violence, harassment, arrest, or living under active conflict)—including candidates from Palestine and Sudan

  • Fields of Focus: Contemporary History (including Luxembourg and European history), Public History, Digital History & Historiography

  • Award Value & Coverage:

    • €1,200 per month for accommodation

    • €1,800 per month for daily and living costs

📚 Scholarship Overview

The C²DH, one of the University of Luxembourg’s key interdisciplinary research centres, champions innovative digital approaches to researching and teaching contemporary history. The "Scholar at Risk" fellowship reflects its commitment to academic solidarity and intellectual freedom. The fellowship is open to researchers currently endangered by conflict, persecution, or political instability—a category including, but not limited to, nationals of Gaza, Palestine, and Sudan .

Fellows will be embedded within one of these C²DH research branches:

  • Contemporary History of Luxembourg

  • Contemporary History of Europe

  • Public History

  • Digital History & Historiography


Each fellow will be expected to pursue an independent research project aligned with these thematic areas, and share their scholarship through seminars or colloquia during their stay .



🎁 Fellowship Benefits

  • Financial Support: Full monthly reimbursements for accommodation (€1,200) and living expenses (€1,800); additional coverage includes travel and insurance .

  • Logistical & Institutional Support: Assistance in securing housing; office space and access to C²DH facilities are provided .

  • Academic Integration: Affiliation with one of the C²DH departments and an opportunity to present research in a seminar or colloquium .

✅ Eligibility Criteria

  • At-Risk Status: Must meet the Scholars at Risk Network definition—i.e., experiencing or recently subjected to violence, harassment, intimidation, threat of arrest/imprisonment, or general physical risk due to conflict .

  • Academic Focus: Research projects should pertain to contemporary, public, or digital history.

  • Availability: Willingness and ability to reside in Luxembourg or the Greater Region during the two-month fellowship.

  • Documentation: Required submission of a Motivation Letter and Curriculum Vitae (CV) via email .

    • Curriculum Vitae (CV) highlighting academic background and any relevant publications or projects.
