CAPACITY Fellowship 2025 Overview

The CAPACITY Fellowship Programme aims to build local professional expertise and enhance the capacity of SIDS and LDCs to address climate change challenges. Fellows will work and receive training within the UNFCCC Secretariat in Bonn for one year, with the possibility of extending to two years. The programme supports the climate change efforts of developing countries under the UNFCCC, the Kyoto Protocol, and the Paris Agreement, and promotes bilateral and multilateral cooperation on climate-related matters.

The fellowship offers opportunities to work on capacity-building, climate finance, and climate technology development and transfer, and to engage in climate change negotiations.

Eligibility Criteria

  1. Currently employed in a governmental organization, educational institution, research institute, or ministry

  2. National of an eligible LDC or SIDS country

  3. Maximum of 40 years of age at the closing date of the fellowship opportunity notice

  4. Proficiency in written and spoken English

  5. Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage

  6. Not intended for students or for support of an advanced degree, such as fieldwork for a PhD degree
