The MeSSO Research Group at Munster Technological University (MTU) is now accepting applications for its PhD Scholarship in the Optimal Integration of Bioenergy Production within the Dairy and Beef Sector, starting in 2025.

📚 Scholarship Overview

This PhD research will focus on integrating bioenergy systems—specifically anaerobic digestion—into the Irish dairy and beef farming sectors. The successful applicant will develop simulation and optimisation tools to support the transition toward decarbonised, energy-efficient agricultural systems. The project is part of a larger sustainable agriculture initiative and involves collaboration with other doctoral researchers, postdocs, academic faculty, state bodies, and industry.

The MeSSO Group specialises in energy systems modelling and aims to create innovative solutions for real-world sustainability problems. Desirable:

  • Experience in simulation modelling or coding optimisation algorithms

  • Background in data analytics or geospatial analysis

  • Experience in academic writing or publishing research
