Applications are now open for the 2025–2026 cohort, inviting students to engage in a 12-week research internship at one of over 70 Canadian academic institutions. This fully funded program spans from May to October 2026, providing a platform to collaborate with leading Canadian researchers across diverse disciplines.

✅ Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must:

  • Be at least 18 years old at the time of application.

  • Be enrolled in a full-time undergraduate or combined undergraduate/master’s program at an eligible institution.

  • Have completed at least two years of undergraduate study or be in the second year of their current program.

  • Have one to three semesters remaining in their program as of Fall 2026.

  • Meet the grade point average (GPA) requirements for their country.

  • Apply to a minimum of three and a maximum of ten projects, ensuring selections are from at least three different Canadian provinces.

  • Be fluent in the language of the project (English and/or French).

  • Be available to complete a 12-week internship between May 1 and October 31, 2026.

  • Not have been awarded a Globalink Research Internship project in the past.

To apply:

  1. Create an Account: Register on the Mitacs Globalink Student Platform.

  2. Prepare Documents:

    • Updated CV (optional template available)

    • Official academic transcripts in English or French

    • Reference letter from a professor (must follow Mitacs guidelines)

    • Valid passport (valid until at least January 2026)

  3. Select Projects: Apply to a minimum of three and a maximum of ten projects across at least three different Canadian provinces.

  4. Submit Application: Ensure all sections are complete and submit before the deadline.

Q1: Can I apply if my institution is not listed as eligible?

A1: Eligibility is determined by your institution's partnership with Mitacs. Please refer to the list of eligible institutions by country on the Mitacs website.


Q2: Is a language proficiency test required?

A2: Mitacs does not require language proficiency scores. However, applicants must have a strong working knowledge of the project's language, which will be listed in the project description.


Q3: Can I apply for a project outside my academic discipline?

A3: Some projects may require interns from various disciplines. Ensure your background aligns with the research topic and skills requested in the project description.


Q4: How will I know if my application is successful?

A4: Mitacs will notify applicants of their application status between mid-December and mid-February. Successful applicants will receive further details about their internship.
