This opportunity invites emerging leaders and early-career professionals to engage remotely in meaningful work contributing to peacebuilding, conflict transformation, digital innovation, and regional collaboration. The six-month, part-time internship kicks off on 1 September 2025 and runs through February 2026, with applications due by 31 August 2025 .
🚀 Internship Overview
Location: Remote (work from anywhere)
Organised By: Horn of Africa Institute for Peace and Security (HOAIPS)
Level: Open to emerging leaders, early-career professionals, and current HOAIPS volunteers
Target Group: Individuals passionate about regional peace, security, policy research, ICT, AI, and community engagement
Fields of Focus: Peacebuilding, conflict transformation, digital platforms, data analysis, communications
Value & Coverage: Unpaid positions—but the internship provides:
Mentorship and training
Certificate of completion
Networking opportunities across regional peacebuilding community
Coverage for communication-related expenses incurred in internship tasks
Duration: 6-months, starting 1 September 2025
Deadline: 31 August 2025 (applications after this date won’t be accepted)
Start Date: 1 September 2025
Eligibility: Open to both existing HOAIPS volunteers and new applicants across the globe
🖥️ Roles and Responsibilities
HOAIPS is currently recruiting for eight remote positions across five programme areas:
PeaceTalks+ Coordination Intern (2 positions)
Organize weekly webinars (scheduling, coordination, logistics)
Prepare briefs, promotional materials, post-session documentation
Ideal candidates: strong in communication, organization, familiar with webinar tools
Peace Briefs Coordination Intern (2 positions)
Assist in creating concise, well-researched briefs
Collaborate with researchers/editors, ensure data accuracy, archival
Ideal: keen writing, research skills, attention to detail
Peace AI Intelligence Data Analysis & Research Intern (1 position)
Integrate and clean data, conduct trend analysis, support cloud services
Prepare weekly incident reports and QA tasks
Ideal: background in data science/statistics, analytical mindset, interest in peace
ICT & AI Development Intern (1 position)
Support development and maintenance of digital platforms (e.g., Peace AI, HOAIPS website, HornConnect)
Assist with AI deployment, digital security, user accessibility, documentation
Ideal: computer science or web development background, AI/ML experience beneficial
HPSN Community Engagement & Communications Intern (2 positions)
Drive engagement in the Horn Peace & Security Network (HPSN)
Manage discussions, social media, newsletters, event promotion, updates
Ideal: strong digital media skills, community engagement experience, passion for peacebuilding
