Scholarship Overview

The Houston Rockets Scholarship aims to empower local students by providing financial assistance for their higher education pursuits. Eligibility Criteria

1. High School Attendance: Applicants must be graduating seniors (Class of 2025) from one of the following high schools in the Greater Houston area:


📍Houston ISD:

  • Austin High School

  • Furr High School

  • Jack Yates High School

  • Margaret Long Wisdom High School

  • North Forest High School

  • Sam Houston Math, Science & Technology Center

  • Wheatley High School

  • Worthing High School


📍Aldine ISD:

  • Avalos P–Tech School

  • MacArthur High School


📍Alief ISD:

  • Hastings High School

  • Elsik High School


📍Fort Bend ISD:

  • Willowridge High School

  • Thurgood Marshall High School


📍Galena Park ISD:

  • Galena Park High School


📍Galveston ISD:

  • Ball High School


2. Academic Achievement: Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale (unweighted).


3. College Enrollment Plans: Must plan to attend an accredited 4-year college/university or 2-year community college in the Greater Houston area. Trade schools are not eligible.


4. Financial Need: Applicants must demonstrate financial need.

 

Scholarship Benefits

1. Financial Support

Provides substantial financial assistance to cover tuition and related educational expenses according to the following One-time awards for the 2025-26 academic year:

  • $10,000 for students attending 4-year colleges/universities.

  • $5,000 for students attending 2-year community colleges.


2. Renewable Funding

Opportunity to receive funding for up to four years, contingent upon annual reapplication and continued eligibility.


3. Academic Encouragement:

Supports students in maintaining full-time enrollment (minimum of 12 credit hours per semester) to promote timely degree completion.

 

Application Procedure

1. Prepare Required Documents:

  • Unofficial or official high school transcript.

  • Resume detailing involvement in activities and service.

  • Financial information to demonstrate need.


2. Essay Response:

Select one of the following prompts and compose a 200-300 word essay:

  • Describe a time when you contributed to your community or helped someone in need. What did you learn, and how will this experience influence your future?

  • Reflect on a time when you collaborated with others to achieve a common goal. What did you learn about teamwork and cooperation?

  • Share an experience where you faced a challenge or setback. How did you overcome it, and what lessons will you carry forward?


3. Complete the Online Application:

  • Visit the GHCF Scholarship Application Site

  • Create an account using a personal email address.

  • Fill out the application, upload required documents, and submit your essay response.

  • Application Availability: The application period opens on March 10, 2025, at 8:00 AM (CDT). Applications are reviewed on a first-come, first-served basis, and the process will close once 125 applications are received.

  • Language Options: The application is available in both English and Spanish. To view the application in Spanish, click the "EN" dropdown button in the top right corner of the application screen and select "Español".
