📚 Scholarship Overview
The IB–UoPeople M.Ed. Scholarship is a collaborative initiative aimed at addressing the global shortage of quality educators. The degree focuses on developing globally minded educators with in-depth knowledge of curriculum, pedagogy, and assessment to support student-directed inquiry, interdisciplinary learning, intercultural competence, and critical thinking.
🧩 Structure and Curriculum
A total of 39 semester credit hours are required to complete the UoPeople M.Ed. degree. Students must complete a minimum of 13 courses. Each course is 9 weeks in length, and students earn 3 credits per course.
The UoPeople M.Ed. is entirely online and is structured around four curricular components: Core Courses, Specialisation Courses, Electives, and a Capstone Project.
Core Courses (9 courses, shared by all students):
Education in Context: History, Philosophy, and Sociology
Curriculum Design and Development
Classroom Management and Learning Environments
Learning Theory and Instructional Design
Assessment and Evaluation
Diversity and Inclusion in the Classroom
Technology in Education
Research Methods in Education
Applied Research in Teaching
Elementary and Middle School Specialisation (Grades K–8):
Instructional Techniques for the Elementary and Middle School Classroom
Advanced Practices for Teaching Elementary and Middle School Literacy
Advanced Practices for Teaching the STEM Fields at the Elementary and Middle School Level
One elective course
Secondary School Specialisation (Grades 6–12):
Advanced Practices for Teaching Literature and Writing at the Secondary Level
Advanced Practices for Teaching the STEM Fields at the Secondary Level
One elective course
Students may choose to complete both specialisations, in which case they will be required to complete the minimum courses for both tracks, leading to a minimum of 16 required courses.
The programme concludes with a Capstone Project in which students conduct planned data collection and analysis activities based on their applied research proposal and prepare a curriculum product or curriculum management plan, accompanied by a final written report describing and interpreting their research results.
