🌐 Programme Overview

The Erasmus Mundus Joint Master in International Law of Security, Peace and Sustainable Development (ILSPSD) is designed to address the global challenges of armed conflict, terrorism, hybrid threats, climate change, sustainable development, migration, and the rule of law. The programme integrates international law, security studies, politics, and sustainability into a multidisciplinary, fully mobile academic experience.

Students study at three or more partner universities over two years, beginning at Leuphana University of Lüneburg and IBEI Barcelona before specialising in one of four advanced tracks. The programme is recognised by the European Commission as an Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree (EMJMD).

📚 Curriculum, Programme Structure, Tracks & Mobility

Year 1

Semester 1 – Leuphana University of Lüneburg (Germany)


Track options:

  • LL.M. in International Law of Security, Peace and Sustainable Development

  • M.A. in International Law of Security, Peace and Sustainable Development

Courses include:

  • Foundations of International Law

  • Peace and Security

  • Sustainable Development Governance

  • Legal Research Methods

  • Practical training through clinics, workshops, and practitioner-led sessions

Semester 2 – IBEI Barcelona (Spain)


Core focus:

  • Theories of International Security

  • Global governance

  • International institutions

  • Policy, diplomacy, and conflict analysis


Year 2 – Specialisation Tracks (Semester 3)

Students specialise at one of the following institutions:

📖 Degrees Awarded

Students receive joint, double, or multiple degrees depending on mobility path.

All graduates receive degrees from both Leuphana University and IBEI.

Additional degrees depend on the chosen track institution (Glasgow, ULB, NOVA, or Tartu).

Erasmus Mundus Scholarship Covers:

✅ Eligibility Criteria

Academic Requirements

  • A completed undergraduate degree equivalent to 180 ECTS, granting access to master’s study

  • Degrees in law, political science, international relations, social sciences, or related fields

  • Minimum 60 ECTS in relevant subjects (law, IR, politics)

  • Additional entry requirements apply for Semester 3 universities

    • Glasgow: 2.1 honours or equivalent

    • ULB: 240 ECTS or 4-year law/cognate degree

    • Tartu: Minimum 60 ECTS in law-related subjects

    • NOVA: No additional requirements


🚨 English Language Requirements

  • IELTS 6.5, TOEFL iBT 79, CAE/CPE 176, or PTE 59

  • Results must be less than 2 years old

  • Higher English requirement (IELTS 7.0) for Glasgow track

  • French B2 required for ULB track

  • Maximum of three scholarship recipients per nationality per intake

  • Applicants must first receive admission to the programme before entering scholarship competition
