Flinders University at the Adelaide Institute for Sleep Health are offering a PhD Scholarship for a an AHPRA-registered dentist to undertake innovative research in sleep research, working with experienced an experienced team of researchers in this specialized field.
Adelaide Institute for Sleep Health (AISH) is a transdisciplinary team that brings together over 60 health and medical professionals, students, and researchers. Their expertise spans clinical, physiology, psychology, engineering, and epidemiology. AISH collaborates with external expert and consumer advisory groups, fostering strong connections with international universities, industry partners, professional societies, and patients.
AISH focuses on designing and translating innovative diagnostic and treatment approaches to improve sleep for individuals with sleep disorders, including insomnia and sleep apnea. The institute’s cutting-edge research includes fitting mandibular advancement splint devices for sleep apnea management.

Eligibility Criteria:
1. Dental Registration:
- You must hold a current AHPRA dental registration
- Show an interest in sleep-specific dentistry and the treatment and management of sleep disorders.
2. Citizenship and Visa Status:
- You should be one of the following:
- An Australian citizen
- A New Zealand citizen
- An Australian permanent resident
- Eligible to apply for a relevant international visa
3. PhD Admission Requirements:
- Meet Flinders University's PhD admission requirements:
- Hold an Australian Honours degree Class 1 or 2A (or equivalent qualification at least AQF Level 8).
- Provide evidence of equivalent research experiences, such as refereed publications or significant lead researcher experience.
- Admission to the PhD program is a condition for scholarship award.
4. Study Start Date:
- Scholarship recipients should begin their studies as soon as practicable within a timeframe specified by the Office of Graduate Research (up to a maximum of 3 months from acceptance).
5. Additional Checks:
- Be willing to undertake a National Police Criminal History Check
- Obtain a Working with Children Check
- Complete the Responding to Risks of Harm, Abuse, and Neglect – Education and Care (RRHAN-EC) Training*.
6. Enrollment:
- Intend to enroll as a full-time student at Flinders University.
