Chalmers University of Technology is offering a PhD student position focusing on the development of high-performance traction inverters for heavy-duty vehicle drivetrains. This role is within the Department of Electrical Engineering, renowned for its inclusive and innovative environment.
Key Details
Research Focus: Design and control methods for long-lifetime traction inverters.
Duration: Up to 4 years, full-time.
Location: Gothenburg, Sweden.
Funding: Fully Funded
Contract terms: Full-time temporary employment (SEK 32,993/month)
Teaching Responsibilities: Teaching duties up to 20%.
Role and Responsibilities
As a PhD student, your primary responsibility will be research and development of design and control methods for long-lifetime traction inverters used in heavy-duty vehicle drivetrains. These inverters require higher efficiency, power density, and durability compared to those used in passenger vehicles. Your research will involve:
Develop loss and thermal models for high-frequency inverters.
Design adaptive switching frequency techniques and dv/dt filters.
Prototype and test high-power SiC inverters.
Teaching duties up to 20%.
Qualifications
Master’s degree in electrical engineering with a focus on power electronics.
In-depth knowledge of power electronics, especially traction inverters and DC/DC converters.
Proficiency in tools like Simulink, LT-Spice, Ansys Maxwell, or Comsol.
Practical experience in prototyping and testing power electronics and drive systems.
Meritorious:
Knowledge of electromagnetics, electrical machines, hardware design, or CAD.
Experience in academic publications.
Collaborative spirit and strong interpersonal skills.
