The University of Birmingham is proud to offer 50 scholarships worth £4,000 each to enhance the accessibility of postgraduate study for students from widening participation backgrounds. These newly-established scholarships will alleviate the barriers restricting students from under-represented backgrounds in pursuing postgraduate study. The financial support will be complimented by a range of developmental opportunities and support to ensure you are supported throughout all stages of your studies with us at Birmingham.
Applications are now open for the Postgraduate Access Scholarship. The deadline for round two applications is 23:59 (UK time) on 31 July 2024.
Postgraduate Access Scholarships Benefits
Awarded students will receive the following benefits:
A £4,000 financial contribution towards tuition fees
A special induction event before you start postgraduate study
Invitation to become a Birmingham Scholar upon starting postgraduate study
Tailored study support from the Academic Skills Centre, study abroad opportunities, mentoring and careers opportunities
Enrolment onto the Postgraduate Professional Development Award
Access to an alumni mentor
Access to the Masters Consultancy Challenge and employability skills sessions
Access to a named postgraduate careers adviser for careers guidance support
Eligibility Criteria
The Postgraduate Access Scholarship will be available to students:
Domiciled in the UK
Studying a 180-credit postgraduate taught degree full-time or part-time
From a group that is evidentially underrepresented among the institution’s taught-Masters population
Under-represented student criteria
Applicants will need to demonstrate that they are categorised within at least one of the following criteria:
Completion of a University of Birmingham (Birmingham Scholar) or another university's Widening Participation Scheme
Black and Ethnic Minority Background
Disability
Care Leaver
Caring Responsibilities
Bereaved of or Estranged from Both Parents
Household Income: Applicants with an annual household income of £42,875 or less at their permanent residence
Application Process
To be considered for an award, applicants must, by the deadline, have done both of the following:
1). Made an application to their intended Masters programme: Interested candidates must apply through the relevant programme page on the Course Finder section of the University of Birmingham website.
2). Completed the Postgraduate Access Scholarships application form: You can complete the form by clicking the 'APPLY NOW' button at the top of this webpage, or by using the embedded form at the bottom of it.
The deadline for round two applications is 23:59 (UK time) on 31 July 2024.
