If you are a Nordic scholar in the humanities or social sciences seeking a distinguished research opportunity, the SCAS-Nordic Fellowship Programme for the academic year 2026–27 invites applications. Hosted by the Swedish Collegium for Advanced Study (SCAS) in Uppsala, Sweden, this fully funded fellowship offers a conducive environment for scholarly research and interdisciplinary collaboration. 🎓 Fellowship Overview

The SCAS-Nordic Fellowship Programme aims to strengthen ties between the Swedish research community and Nordic colleagues. Fellows are expected to engage in independent research, participate in seminars, and contribute to the academic environment at SCAS. The programme is funded by Riksbankens Jubileumsfond (RJ) and is open to scholars who have held a PhD for at least three years at the time of application.

✅ Eligibility Criteria

Academic Qualifications:

  • PhD (or equivalent doctoral degree) held for at least three years at the time of application


Early-Career Scholars:

  • Promising track record of independent achievements beyond the postdoctoral level

  • Significant publications

  • Active participation in international forums


Senior Scholars:

  • PhD held for at least ten years

  • Demonstrated record of significant and original research achievements

  • Active at the international forefront of their research fields


Institutional Affiliation

  • Must hold a position at a university in the Nordic countries

📝 Application Procedure

1. Prepare Application Documents:

  • Curriculum vitae (not exceeding 4 pages)

  • Description of intended research project (not exceeding 1500 words)

  • List of major publications (up to ten)

  • One article or chapter representing your scholarship (in English)

  • Motivation statements addressing:

- Why SCAS? (100 words)

- How you would benefit from a stay at SCAS (100 words)

- How you would contribute to the academic and social environment at SCAS (100 words)

  • Copy of PhD diploma

  • Up to three letters of reference (optional; must be uploaded by the candidate)


2. Submit Application:

- Apply through the Varbi application system

- Submit all documents as PDF files


3. Selection Process:

  • Applications reviewed by a selection committee composed of Long-term Fellows

  • Final decisions made by the Principal of SCAS

  • Applicants notified of results via the Varbi system by 28 February 2026
