The Stanford Global Child Health Travel Scholarship offers an exceptional opportunity for Stanford School of Medicine pediatric trainees, clinical medical students, and MSPA (Physician Assistant) students to engage in global health initiatives. Established in 2009, this program has enabled over 100 participants to contribute to pediatric care in low- and middle-income countries.
🎯 Program Overview
Directed by Dr. Clea Sarnquist, DrPH, MPH, the scholarship aims to eliminate financial barriers for those committed to enhancing child health globally. It funds six-week international rotations at partner sites, allowing participants to provide clinical care and gain invaluable experience in diverse healthcare settings.
📍 Partner Sites
Participants can choose from the following partner sites:
Cachamsi Program – Riobamba, Ecuador
Shrimad Rajchandra Hospital – Gujarat, India
Butaro Hospital/University of Global Health Equity – Rwanda
Note: For the upcoming cycle, student rotations are limited to the Ecuador site as the program transitions back from a period of no student rotations.
💰 Scholarship Benefits
The scholarship covers:
Round-trip travel expenses
Accommodations
Pre-trip medical evaluations, including physical exams, necessary medications, and immunizations
Additional health insurance coverage
🗓️ Application Deadlines
Fellows/Faculty: June 1, 2025, 11:59 PM PT (for travel between June 2025–May 2026)
Students: June 1, 2025, 11:59 PM PT (for travel between November 2025–May 2026)
Residents: December 1, 2025, 11:59 PM PT (for travel between January–May 2026)

Priority is given to applicants demonstrating a strong commitment to global child health leadership.
