The Fulbright U.S.–ASEAN Visiting Scholar Program Overview

The Fulbright U.S.–ASEAN Visiting Scholar Program aims to support research on priority issues relevant to the U.S.-ASEAN relationship and ASEAN. Selected scholars will travel to the United States to carry out scholarly and professional research on topics such as public health, economic integration, maritime cooperation, opportunities for women, and addressing transnational challenges like human trafficking and wildlife trafficking.

 

Eligible Countries

The Fulbright U.S.–ASEAN Visiting Scholar Program targets citizens of The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) which comprises ten member states. Here they are:


1. Brunei Darussalam

2. Cambodia

3. Indonesia

4. Laos (Lao People's Democratic Republic)

5. Malaysia

6. Myanmar

7. Philippines

8. Singapore

9. Thailand

10. Vietnam

 

Eligibility Check

To be eligible for the Fulbright U.S.–ASEAN Visiting Scholar program, applicants must meet below criteria:

  1. Nationality: Must be a citizen of an ASEAN member state.

  2. Academic Qualification: Hold a master's degree or higher.

  3. English Proficiency: Proficient in English.

  4. Professional Experience: Be highly motivated and experienced in fields relevant to U.S.-ASEAN issues.

  5. Health: Be in good health.

  6. Commitment: Be available to travel to the United States for three to four months during the first half of 2026.

 

Scholarship Benefits

  • Roundtrip Airfare: Covered by the program.

  • Research Fees: Qualifying university lab and research fees up to $3,000 are covered.

  • Monthly Stipend: Between $2,710 and $3,145, depending on the U.S. city.

  • Professional Allowance: One-time $1,250 professional and settling-in allowance.

  • Insurance : Comprehensive coverage provided.

  • Networking Opportunities: Engage with U.S. scholars, professionals, and institutions.
