If you're a young professional or a final-year student passionate about shaping public policy and engaging in political strategy, The Mukherjee Fellowship 2025–26 offers an exceptional opportunity to immerse yourself in India's policymaking landscape. Organized by the Policy, Politics and Governance Foundation (PPGF) in collaboration with the Nation First Policy Research Centre (NFPRC), this prestigious 12-month, full-time fellowship provides hands-on experience working alongside senior legislators, ministers, and administrators. Applications are now open for the 2025–26 cohort.

🎓Mukherjee Fellowship Summary

  • Location: Delhi, India

  • Host Institutions: Policy, Politics and Governance Foundation (PPGF) & Nation First Policy Research Centre (NFPRC)

  • Level: Final-year undergraduate students, graduates, and postgraduates

  • Target Group: Young professionals under 26 years old (born on or after July 1, 1999)

  • Fields of Focus: Public policy, political strategy, governance, legislative research, communications

  • Funding: ₹50,000 monthly stipend for 12 months

  • Duration: 1 year (July 2025 – June 2026)

🏛️Mukherjee Fellowship Overview

The Mukherjee Fellowship is structured into two comprehensive modules:

1. Theoretical Learning Module (1.5 months, in-person in Delhi)

This intensive classroom training, led by subject matter experts, covers:

  • Understanding Indian Society

  • Political Campaigns & Communications 101

  • Understanding Parliamentary Procedures

  • Law and Economics in India

  • Understanding Democracy

  • Economics in Policy Making

  • Essentials of Documentation

  • Understanding Caste and Indian Society

  • Understanding Indian History

  • Understanding the Constitution

  • Modes of Political Intelligence

Each submodule includes guided presentations, sample documents, assigned readings, and assignments to ensure a robust understanding of the subjects.


2. Experiential Learning Module (10.5 months)

Upon successful completion of the theoretical module, Fellows are placed in the offices of senior political leaders, including Members of Parliament, Chief Ministers, and Union Ministers. Responsibilities during this phase include:

  • Drafting inputs on bills, parliamentary questions, and policy discussions

  • Managing social media and political communications

  • Assisting in election campaigns and constituency strategy

  • Conducting in-depth policy research and legislative analysis

  • Providing background research for conferences, speeches, etc.

  • Liaising with other consultants from across the industry

This hands-on experience is designed to provide Fellows with a deep understanding of the practical aspects of policymaking and political strategy.

🎁 Fellowship Benefits

  • Education: Open to final-year students and graduates from any discipline

  • Commitment: Full-time engagement; Fellows cannot pursue other academic or professional assignments during the fellowship

📝 Application Procedure

The selection process comprises three stages:

  1. Application Submission: Complete the application form on the official website with a Statement of Purpose

  2. Questionnaire Round: Respond to a series of questions on policy and political issues in an essay format

  3. Personal Interview: Participate in a remote interview with the management committee
