🎓 Fellowship Overview

The SIS Postdoctoral Fellowship is designed to assist scholars in converting their doctoral research into a publishable book. The fellow will be affiliated with a UK or Irish university's Italian Department, gaining access to academic resources and a supportive scholarly community. This initiative aims to foster significant contributions to the field of Italian Studies.

  • Stipend: Aligned with the AHRC PhD maintenance stipend—£19,237, or £21,237 for London-based fellows

  • Relocation Grant: £500 for fellows moving to a different UK or Irish institution

✅ Eligibility Criteria

  1. Have successfully completed their PhD viva (with all corrections approved) at a UK or Irish university no earlier than 9 May 2023

  2. Propose a project based on an Italianist topic with a clear publication plan

  3. Be eligible to reside in the UK or Ireland or qualify for a Graduate Visa

  4. Secure support from a UK or Irish university's Italian Department, with only one application supported per department.

📝 Application Procedure

  1. Project Description and Publication Plan: Maximum 1,000 words detailing the proposed book's contribution to Italian Studies

  2. Host Department Support Statement: Maximum 500 words, signed and on official letterhead, outlining mentorship and integration plans

  3. Curriculum Vitae: Two pages

  4. Referees: Contact details for two referees (references will be requested only for shortlisted candidates)
