About the Asian Development Bank-Japan Scholarship Programme (ADB-JSP)
The Asian Development Bank (ADB)–Japan Scholarship Program (JSP) was established in April 1988 with financing from the Government of Japan. It aims to provide an opportunity for well-qualified citizens of ADB’s developing member countries to undertake graduate studies in economics, management, science and technology, and other development-related fields at participating academic institutions in the Asian and Pacific Region. Upon completion of their study programs, scholars are expected to contribute to the economic and social development of their home countries

Eligibility Criteria
The following are some of the key eligibility criteria to be considered for the ADB Japan Scholarship at HKU:
Citizens of ADB's borrowing member countries;
Not holding dual citizenship of any developed country;
Holders of a Bachelor's degree;
With at least two years of full-time professional working experience after acquiring a university degree;
Not more than 35 years old; and
Family income should be not more than US$50,000 per year and individual income should not be more than US$25,000 per year
Should agree to return and work in his/her home country for at least two (2) years after completion of studies under the Program in order to contribute to its development
Not be living or working in a country other than his/her home country; and
Not be already enrolled in graduate degree programs
🔠 ENGLISH LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS
For applicants who do not hold a degree from an institution using English as the language of instruction and/or language of examination, they have to satisfy the following language requirement:
Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL): a score of 550 or above (paper-based test), or 213 or above (computer-based test), or 80 or above (new internet-based); or,
International English Language Testing System (IELTS): a minimum overall band of 6 with no subtest lower than 5.5.
Application Procedure
Applicants should indicate to HUK that they are applying for admission and that they would like to be considered for the ADB-Japan Scholarship for the master's in Urban Planning or Urban Design programmes.

⚠️ Below are important notes from the ADB Japan Scholarship side:
Applicants are required to submit their latest Income Tax Return or Certification of their Annual Salary/Monthly Salary, whichever is available. They should also submit a Certification of Family Income (Parent’s Income/Spouse if married).
The duly accomplished application forms, together with all copies of academic records, should be sent to the institution at least six (6) months before the commencement of the intake that you wish to join.
Only candidates who have been offered admission and endorsed by the academic institutions will be considered for the scholarships by the ADB.
Completion of the application form or admission by the academic institution does not mean that you have been accepted for a scholarship; accordingly you should not take any action with respect to your current employment or otherwise, until you have been informed by the institution that you have been awarded a scholarship.
