University of Minnesota Scholarships For International Students | Quick Guide

The University of Minnesota is ranked as a “best value” by USA Today, the Princeton Review, and Kiplinger’s Personal Finance. The university has competitive tuition rates, outstanding academic programs, and a focus on student success.

Since the university charges a flat tuition rate, the tuition cost will not increase for students taking 13 credits or more per semester. Students typically take 15–16 credits per semester in order to graduate in four years, making it a popular option for International Students.

To make it even better, the University of Minnesota offers two types of partial scholarships for international students to help them with their tuition fees. Let's dig into details!

1). Global Excellence Scholarships

The Global Excellence Scholarship is offered for students with strong academic records making it a competitive scholarship, but it has good value, students can receive up to $15,000/year towards their tuition fees for up to four years of study (That's $60K!) big deal right?

More Details

All international students who apply by the deadline are automatically considered for a Global Excellence Scholarship. These awards are very competitive. Students selected are among the best in their class and show a record of strong academic preparation.

For the 2023–24 academic year, international freshmen can receive scholarships of $15,000 or $10,000 per year for up to four years. Transfer students may receive $10,000 per year for up to three years when entering the University in the Fall semester. Transfer students entering in the Spring semester will be considered for scholarships on a funds-available basis.

Students must maintain their F-1 immigration status to remain eligible for these scholarships. If you have been awarded a Global Excellence Scholarship and have questions about the award, please view the FAQ section on the International Student and Scholar Services website.

2). International Student and Scholar Services Scholarships (ISSS)
