The WACCBIP-DAAD In-Country/In-Region Master Scholarship Programme is jointly implemented by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and the West African Centre for Cell Biology of Infectious Pathogens (WACCBIP) at the University of Ghana.
The programme aims to strengthen higher education and research in Sub-Saharan Africa by training future academic and professional leaders in the biomedical sciences. Detailed Benefits:
Tuition Fees: Fully or partially covered (as specified in the Letter of Award)
Study and Research Allowance: €460 per year
Thesis Publishing Costs: €400 (one-time, towards the end of the scholarship)
Monthly Living Stipend:
In-Country Scholars: €400 per month
In-Region Scholars: €500 per month
Travel Allowance (In-Region only): Flat-rate travel support (at the beginning and end of the programme, amount specified in Letter of Award)
Health Insurance (In-Region only): Annual coverage if applicable, details provided in the award letter

✅ Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for the WACCBIP-DAAD Master Scholarship 2026, applicants must:
Hold a first university degree (minimum Second Class/Upper Division or equivalent) from a recognised institution.
Have completed their last degree no more than 6 years ago.
Be a citizen or permanent resident of a Sub-Saharan African country.
Demonstrate strong academic performance, motivation, and commitment to research and development.
Have a thorough command of English, the language of instruction.
Be employed or intending employment as academic/research staff or in the public sector, or show potential for such a career.
Meet any additional WACCBIP admission requirements for the MPhil programme.
Female candidates, refugees with recognised status, and applicants from underprivileged regions are particularly encouraged to apply.
