WHO Incentive Grants for Young Researchers in low- and middle-income countries

If you are a young researcher passionate about addressing global health challenges, particularly noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) and mental health conditions, the World Health Organization (WHO) Global NCD Platform has an exciting opportunity for you. This call for proposals invites applications for incentive grants aimed at fostering implementation research on integrated care pathways in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs).

  • Study Level: Master's (doctoral projects are considered if completed within 12 months)

WHO Incentive Research Grants Overview

The program supports young researchers in conducting implementation research that explores integrated care pathways for preventing and controlling NCDs and mental health conditions. It encourages whole-of-government and whole-of-society approaches to scale cost-effective interventions, offering practical solutions tailored to LMIC contexts.


Selected proposals will benefit from mentorship and funding, enabling researchers to act as catalysts for institutional change while contributing to the global knowledge base on NCD and mental health care integration.

Eligibility Criteria

To apply for this incentive grant, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  1. Be under 35 years of age and provide valid identification.

  2. Be a national of an LMIC conducting research related to LMICs.

  3. Be enrolled in a graduate program (Master’s or PhD with completion in 12 months).

  4. Submit proposals in English.

  5. Provide evidence of ethical approval and supervisor's authorization.

  6. Demonstrate partial funding from other sources.

  7. Focus research on integrated care pathways for NCDs and mental health.

 

Application Procedure

1. Prepare Your Proposal

  • Use the required application form (font: Calibri/Times New Roman, size ≥11, single-spaced).

  • Include a detailed research description (up to 1500 words) covering the background, methodology, expected results, and solutions.

  • Add annexes for team qualifications, timelines, budgets, and dissemination plans.


2. Prepare Supporting Documents

  • Ethical review committee approval.

  • Supervisor's permission.

  • Proof of complementary funding.


3. Submission Details

Email to [GNPgrants@who.int] with the subject line: "Young Researcher Program Proposal: Implementation Research on NCD Integrated Care." Ensure all materials are in English and under 7MB per email.
