The Aarhus Institute of Advanced Studies (AIAS), in partnership with Riksbankens Jubileumsfond (RJ), is offering the AIAS-RJ Fellowship, a fully funded 12-month fellowship starting 1 September 2026 and running through 31 August 2027. The aim is to strengthen Swedish-Danish research ties and offer scholars time and space to focus on their research while engaging with the AIAS community.

🧭 Fellowship Overview

  • The fellowship is designed to provide uninterrupted time for independent research while also integrating the fellow into the vibrant and interdisciplinary research environment at AIAS. Fellows will be expected to participate in AIAS seminars, workshops, and other academic and social activities beyond their discipline.

  • Office space at AIAS will be provided. The fellow will also have affiliation with relevant research units at Aarhus University, allowing for collaboration.

  • A moderate budget is available for research-related costs. Travel to and from Aarhus plus relocation assistance are provided.

To qualify, applicants must:

  • Hold a tenured position at a Swedish research institution.

  • Be working in the humanities or social sciences.

  • Have at least 4 years of research experience after completing the PhD by the deadline.

  • The fellowship is full-time; part-time is not possible. Applicants should plan to relocate, engage fully, and dedicate their energies to the research project during the fellowship period.

  • Working conditions follow Danish norms for university faculty/staff under collective agreements — this includes salary, pension, paid holidays, etc. Foreign employees may also benefit from special researcher tax rules.
