Eligibility criteria

To be considered for the Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation scholarship, you must meet below criteria:

  • Enrollment: You need to be enrolled in or accepted by a full-time doctoral program, with an anticipated completion date of your doctoral studies in 2027 or later.

  • Study Area: Your research should have a broad connection to the humanities or human sciences and be pertinent to Canada's future.

  • Research Topics: Your doctoral project must correspond with one of the Foundation's Four Themes: Human Rights and Dignity, Responsible Citizenship, Canada and the World, or People and their Natural Environment.

  • Nationality: You need to be a Canadian citizen studying at a Canadian or overseas institution, or a non-Canadian (permanent resident or foreign national) registered in a doctoral program at a Canadian institution.

 

Application procedure

To apply for the scholarship, follow these steps (Remember, you must be enrolled or accepted to a Doctoral program related to the fields mentioned above before applying):


  1. Online registration: When the competition opens, register for an account on the Foundation’s application portal.

  2. Fill out the application: Once your registration is complete, you will be able to create an application for the 2025 Scholarship Competition

  3. Get Recommendations: Ensure your referees submit their recommendations on time through the application portal.
