🎓 Scholarship Summary

  • Location: African universities in the CaReFoAfrica consortium

  • Host Institutions: Consortium universities across Africa (not hosted in Europe; HSWT in Germany is the EU technical partner only)

  • Study/Research Level: Master’s, Doctoral, Traineeships (Bachelor, Master, Doctorate), Academic/Administrative/Technical Staff

  • Target Group: African nationals and residents at the time of application

  • Fields of Focus: Climate change mitigation and adaptation in agriculture

  • Value & Coverage:

    • Master’s students: €890/month (4–24 months)

    • Doctoral students: €1,230/month (6–36 months)

    • Traineeships: €890–€1,230/month (3–6 months)

    • Staff mobility: €2,370/month (2 weeks–3 months)

    • Travel, installation, and subsistence costs

    • Tuition and registration fees fully covered

    • Medical insurance and contribution to research costs

    • Special support budget for students with disabilities or special needs

  • Duration:

    • Master’s mobility: 4–24 months

    • Doctoral mobility: 6–36 months

    • Traineeships: 3–6 months

🌍 Scholarship Overview

The CaReFoAfrica (Capacity Building for Resilient Food Systems in Africa) Mobility Project is funded by the European Union and designed to:

  • Enhance human capacity in climate change mitigation and adaptation in agriculture.

  • Support student, trainee, and staff mobility across African universities.

  • Promote equitable academic exchange and knowledge transfer within the African continent.

  • Strengthen collaboration between universities and stakeholders in the agriculture and climate change sectors.



🧭 Types of Mobility

  1. Student Mobility (Master’s & Doctorate)

    • Degree-Seeking Mobility: Full enrollment in a host African university leading to a degree.

    • Credit-Seeking Mobility: Short-term coursework/research at the host university with academic recognition ensured through a signed Learning Agreement.

  2. Trainee Mobility

    • Placements in public or private organizations in climate-related sectors, boosting employability and practical skills.

  3. Staff Mobility

    • Opportunities for academic, administrative, or technical staff of consortium universities.

    • Activities include teaching, research collaboration, curriculum development, training, and technical tasks.

The program ensures inclusivity by providing additional support for students with long-term disabilities, covering equipment and services required for participation.

  • Monthly subsistence allowances (€890–€2,370 depending on mobility type)

✅ Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must:

  • Be nationals of and residents in an African country at the time of application.

  • Apply to a host university in a different African country than their nationality/residence.

  • Be:

    • A student (Bachelor, Master, or Doctorate) or graduate of an African university (consortium or non-consortium).

    • A trainee currently enrolled in a consortium university.

    • A staff member (academic, administrative, or technical) from a consortium university.

  • Provide required academic qualifications and documents (see below).

  • Academic transcripts and certificates

  • Proof of residence and certified ID

  • Research or study proposal aligned with climate change/agriculture themes

  • Curriculum Vitae (CV)

  • For staff mobility: proof of employment at consortium university

  • Learning or mobility agreement (depending on mobility type)


✍🏻 Before starting the mobility, successful applicants must sign:

  • Learning Agreement (for students)

  • Mobility Agreement (for staff/trainees)

  • Selection Criteria Document (ensuring transparency and fairness)
