If you're a student or early-career researcher from an African university with a passion for sustainable bioenergy, the 2025 Global Bioenergy Partnership (GBEP) Youth Award presents a unique opportunity to showcase your research on an international stage. Organized by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations, this award aims to recognize and promote outstanding research in the field of bioenergy, focusing on areas such as environmental, social, and economic sustainability, circular bioeconomy, bioenergy technologies, supply chain logistics, policy development, societal practices, and addressing climate change.

🧭 Award Overview
The GBEP Youth Award is part of the GBEP Bioenergy Weeks, held annually in different regions. The 2025 edition focuses exclusively on Africa, aiming to highlight the continent's potential for bioenergy solutions that can transform lives and communities. The awardee will present their research during a special session at the 12th GBEP Bioenergy Week in Kampala, Uganda, and may also have opportunities to present at other international events co-organized by GBEP throughout 2025.

✅ Eligibility Criteria
Academic Status:
Current students (Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD) at recognized African institutions.
Recent graduates who completed their research and graduated after December 2024.
Age Limit:
Bachelor’s and Master’s students: 30 years old or younger.
PhD students: 35 years old or younger.
Research Focus: Work related to bioenergy, encompassing areas like sustainability, bioeconomy, technologies, logistics, policy, and climate change.
📝 Application Procedure
Required Documents:
Completed Application Form: Downloadable from the official GBEP website.
Curriculum Vitae (CV): Detailed academic and research background.
Proof of Student Status:
For current students: Certificate of enrollment.
For recent graduates: Certificate of graduation or proof of research completion (post-December 2024).
Research Poster:
Visually summarize the research, including context, methodology, results, conclusions, and broader relevance to the bioenergy field.
Poster requirements: Legible at A0 size (84.1 × 118.9 cm) with a 10 cm blank white ribbon at the bottom for display purposes.
Submission: All documents must be submitted via email to GBEP-Secretariat@fao.org by May 15, 2025.
