📚 Scholarship Overview

The Leicester-King Power Thai Scholarship is the product of a relationship that goes well beyond a standard institutional partnership. King Power's partnership with the University of Leicester stretches many years, making it the only football club in the whole of the UK to fund a professorship at a university in child health.

The King Power Thai Scholarship sits at the heart of this growing institutional relationship, serving as its most direct and tangible benefit for Thai students seeking a UK education.

The University of Leicester itself is a well-regarded research institution. It is ranked 191st in the world by the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2025, and 33rd in the UK by the Complete University Guide 2026.

It received a Gold rating in the Teaching Excellence Framework 2023, the highest possible classification for student experience and student outcomes in the UK.

🎁 Scholarship Benefits

  • £5,000 tuition fee discount per year for undergraduate students, applied automatically for the standard duration of the degree

  • £5,000 one-time tuition fee discount for postgraduate taught (Master's) students

  • No separate application required — eligible students are automatically identified and the award is applied directly to their tuition fee invoice

  • Access to the full University of Leicester student experience, including its internationally renowned research environment, Space Park Leicester, and one of the UK's most diverse and welcoming cities

✅ Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for the Leicester-King Power Thai Scholarship, all of the following conditions must be met:

  • Must be classified as an international student for tuition fee purposes at the University of Leicester

  • Must be currently domiciled (permanently residing) in Thailand — not residing in Thailand for the purpose of study

  • Must be commencing a full-time, campus-based undergraduate or postgraduate taught (PGT) programme in September 2026

  • The discount is applied to tuition fees only and is not transferable to any other costs or persons

  • Students receiving the King Power Thai Scholarship may not simultaneously hold any other University of Leicester scholarship or discount — where more than one award is applicable, only the higher value award will be granted

  • Sponsored students may still qualify for the discount provided all other eligibility criteria are met

  • The discount does not apply to placement year fees, resit costs, or other additional charges

  • Students currently holding a Commonwealth Masters or Chevening fully funded scholarship are not eligible for this additional fee discount

📝 Application Procedure

The Leicester-King Power Thai Scholarship requires no separate application. Here is all you need to do:

  1. Apply for your chosen undergraduate or postgraduate taught programme at the University of Leicester through the standard admissions process — for undergraduate programmes via UCAS, and for postgraduate programmes directly through the University

  2. Receive an offer of admission from the University of Leicester for a full-time, campus-based programme commencing September 2026

  3. The £5,000 tuition fee discount will be automatically applied to your offer — the fee stated in your offer letter will already reflect the discounted amount

  4. Accept your offer and complete all standard enrolment steps as directed by the University

No motivation letter, separate form, or additional documentation is required to access this award.

📁 Documents Required for Admission (Standard Application)

While the scholarship itself requires no extra paperwork, your admissions application to the University of Leicester will typically require:

  • Academic transcripts and certificates from all previous levels of study

  • Personal statement (for undergraduate applicants via UCAS)

  • Two academic references or letters of recommendation

  • Proof of English language proficiency (IELTS, TOEFL, or equivalent — unless exempt based on prior study in English at an approved Thai institution)

  • Copy of valid passport

  • For postgraduate applicants: a research proposal or statement of purpose, depending on the programme

ℹ️ The University of Leicester notes that applicants who have completed an international bachelor's degree programme at certain Thai universities may be exempt from providing further English language proof — check the Thailand country page on the University's website for the full list.
