The Lakshmi Mittal and Family South Asia Institute (LMSAI) at Harvard University invites applications for the Mittal Institute India Fellowship (MIIF) 2026. This prestigious fellowship offers two recent postdoctoral scholars the opportunity to conduct independent research in India, leveraging Harvard's extensive resources.

🎯 MIIF Fellowship Overview

  • Location: New Delhi, India

  • Fellowship Duration: 1 year

  • Start Date: January 2026

  • Monthly Stipend: INR 1,00,000 (covers living expenses, medical allowances, books, and research materials)

  • Travel Support: Economy round-trip airfare for fellows residing outside New Delhi

  • Mentorship: Remote guidance from a Harvard faculty member

  • Application Deadline: July 7, 2025, 11:59 PM EST

✅ Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must:

  • Have completed a PhD between March 1, 2020, and March 31, 2025

  • Be recent postdoctoral scholars from any discipline

  • Demonstrate a commitment to advancing programs for the public benefit of India

  • Preferably have been primarily educated at institutions in India and have not previously accessed Harvard’s resources

📝 Application Requirements

Applicants must submit:

  1. Research Proposal: A 2–3 page, double-spaced document including:

    • Project title and abstract

    • Research questions

    • Methodology

    • Proposed outcomes

  2. Curriculum Vitae (CV): Detailing academic degrees, publications, presentations, and previous grants/fellowships

  3. Writing Sample: A document not exceeding 10 pages, double-spaced (e.g., dissertation chapter, academic paper, policy brief)

  4. PhD Diploma Scan: Proof of doctoral degree

  5. Letters of Recommendation: Two letters, with at least one from an academic referee familiar with the applicant's scholarly work
