If you're a young African professional passionate about sustainable energy and eager to drive change in the electricity sector, the Open Africa Power 2025 Programme is your gateway to becoming a transformative leader. Applications are now open for this prestigious initiative, jointly organized by the Enel Foundation and Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL). The programme offers a comprehensive blend of technical, regulatory, and business training, equipping participants with the skills needed to spearhead Africa's clean energy future.

🎓 Programme Summary

  • Location: Hybrid (Online & Italy)

  • Host Institutions: Enel Foundation, SEforALL, University of Cape Town – Graduate School of Business, African School of Regulation, Politecnico di Torino, Politecnico di Milano, SDA Bocconi

  • Academic Level: Postgraduate (Master's, MBA, PhD holders)

  • Target Group: Young African energy professionals (ages 24–35)

  • Fields of Study: Energy policy, renewable energy, electricity networks, ICT, sustainability

  • Coverage: Full coverage of training, travel, and accommodation for the Italian module

  • Duration: June to December 2025

  • Application Deadline: May 16, 2025

  • Start Date: Early June 2025

  • Eligible To: African citizens residing in Africa or planning to relocate there by end of 2025

🌍 Programme Overview

Since its inception in 2018, Open Africa Power has been instrumental in nurturing over 500 alumni, fostering a new generation of energy leaders across the continent. The 2025 edition aims to engage up to 80 participants, ensuring at least 50% female representation, in a series of professional development and leadership activities.


🧩 Programme Structure

  1. Digital African Module: State of the Art (June–July 2025)

    • Format: Online (24 hours)

    • Partners: University of Cape Town – Graduate School of Business, African School of Regulation

    • Content:

      • Networks technology, regulation, economics

      • Renewables technology, regulation, economics

      • ICT digitalization of the electricity industry

      • Energy and gender balance nexus

    • Assessment: Online multiple-choice test

  2. External Partner Online Course (June–October 2025)

    • Focus: Designing policy and regulatory frameworks for sustainable energy

    • Deliverables: Country Project (individual or group)

    • Certification: Attendance, Completion, or Excellence based on performance

  3. Italian Module: New Frontiers (Second Half of 2025)

    • Residential Week in Italy:

      • Site visits to innovative power plants, labs, and control rooms

      • Interactions with academic partners, government, business, and non-profit leaders

    • Online Course (October–December 2025):

      • Topics: Additive Manufacturing, ICT in Networks Management, Economic & Environmental Impact Accounting, Renewables & Climate Change, Decision-making under uncertainty, Energy transition drivers

  4. Give Back Module

    • Post-program engagement in teaching activities and events related to Enel Foundation's education initiatives in Africa and beyond

✅ Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must:

  • Be aged between 24 and 35 by April 14, 2025

  • Hold citizenship of an African country

  • Reside in Africa or plan to relocate there by end of 2025

  • Be eligible to travel to Italy

  • Have completed a PhD, MBA, or Master's degree by April 16, 2025 (at least one degree must be from an African university)

  • Demonstrate interest in pursuing a career in the electricity sector

  • Be proficient in English (CEFR C1 level)

  • Commit to promoting gender equality and women's empowerment

Note: Current undergraduate students, individuals with only a Bachelor's degree, or those currently enrolled in a Master's program are not eligible.
