APHRC Research Internships Overview
The APHRC's Research and Related Capacity Strengthening (RRCS) Division is offering internship opportunities across various projects for a period of 3 to 6 months, commencing in April 2025. This program aims to nurture talented young Africans into future research leaders by providing them with practical experience in research, data analysis, policy engagement, and project implementation.
Available Projects
Interns can choose to work on a diverse range of projects, including but not limited to:
Evaluating the feasibility and effectiveness of a gender-transformative parenting intervention in improving the outcomes of children of adolescent parents in Kakamega County
Understanding the relationship between child stimulation and brain function using neuroimaging techniques and behavioral measures
Development of a centralized Early Childhood Development (ECD) data visualization system at the county level in Nairobi, Homa Bay, and Isiolo Counties, Kenya
Teacher professional development (TPD) practicum/Sex Education Pipeline
Kenya National Survey on Gender Norms and Attitudes, Health, and Wellbeing among Very Young Adolescents in Kenya

Responsibilities
Generally, successful candidates will be expected to:
Work with the assigned supervisor to develop a set of objectives for the internship and a work plan and to deliver on the objectives.
Work closely with assigned supervisor to provide frequent project updates and reports etc.
Contribute to policy engagement and strategic planning as may be needed.
Make at least one brown bag presentation (BBP) about their work at APHRC.
Submit a written report at least 1 week before the end of their internship.
Submit an internship/visiting scholar feedback form.
Participate in internship follow-up evaluation survey.

Eligibility Criteria
Completion of a bachelor's degree and/or enrollment in or completion of a master's degree in relevant disciplines such as population studies, demography, statistics, epidemiology, economics, social sciences, or related fields.
Possession of quantitative and qualitative analytical skills is desirable.
Open to nationals of African countries.
Ability to participate in a hybrid internship model, with physical presence required for certain activities.
