🧪 Fellowship Overview
The TWAS-SN Bose Postgraduate Fellowship Programme is a collaborative initiative between The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) and the S.N. Bose National Centre for Basic Sciences. It aims to provide young scientists from developing countries with the opportunity to pursue research leading to a PhD in the physical sciences.
Fellowships are tenable at the S.N. Bose National Centre for Basic Sciences in Kolkata, India, for studies leading towards a PhD degree. The programme offers two options:
Sandwich Option: Candidates are registered for a PhD in their home country and undertake part of their research at the S.N. Bose Centre.
Full-Time Option: Candidates enroll in a PhD programme at the S.N. Bose Centre.
In both cases, the programme entails only one journey to the host country. Admission to the PhD programme at the S.N. Bose Centre will depend on the successful completion of coursework (about one year's duration).
🎁 Fellowship Benefits
Monthly Stipend: To cover living costs and food (non-convertible to foreign currency).
Accommodation: Free on-campus housing provided.
Medical Scheme: Partial reimbursement of medical expenses incurred in Kolkata, aligned with the Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS) of India.
Note: Comprehensive health insurance is not provided; fellows must have their own medical insurance before joining the programme.
✅ Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must:
Be under 35 years of age as of 31 December 2025.
Be nationals of a developing country (excluding India).
Not hold any visa for temporary or permanent residency in India or any developed country.
Hold a Master's degree in Physics, Chemistry, Biology, or Mathematics, with at least five years of combined undergraduate and postgraduate studies.
Be accepted by a department of the S.N. Bose National Centre for Basic Sciences.
Provide evidence of proficiency in English if the medium of education was not English.
Provide evidence of intent to return to their home country upon completion of the fellowship.
Not take up other assignments during the fellowship period.
Be financially responsible for any accompanying family members.

Last date of issuance of Preliminary Acceptance Letters: 31 August 2025.
