✅ Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for the Postgraduate High Fliers Scholarship, you must meet all of the following conditions:

  1. Programme offer: You must have applied for and received an offer to study a full-time taught Masters degree at the University of Birmingham's UK campus starting in September 2026.

  2. Domicile: You must be habitually resident (domiciled) in one of the 34 eligible countries listed above. Note: domicile is not the same as nationality or citizenship.

  3. Fee classification: You must be classified as an overseas fee payer by the University.

  4. No third-party tuition funding: Students receiving a full or partial tuition fee scholarship from an external organisation are not eligible.

  5. Not currently enrolled: Students already studying a Masters-level taught programme at Birmingham are ineligible.

  6. UK residency exclusion: Even if you are from an eligible country, you are not eligible if you are currently living, working, or studying in the UK.

❌ Ineligible Programmes Include:

  • Distance learning and online-only programmes

  • MA/MSc by Research, MRes, MPhil, MMus, MLit

  • Postgraduate Diplomas (PGDip) and Certificates (PGCert)

  • Undergraduate integrated Masters such as MSci, MEng, MPharm, and MBChB

📝 How to Apply

No separate scholarship application is needed. Here is exactly what you need to do:

Step 1 — Apply for your Masters programme

Submit your application for an eligible full-time taught Masters degree at the University of Birmingham UK campus via the official admissions portal.

Step 2 — Receive and accept your offer

Once you receive an offer, carefully review it and formally accept it before the deadline stated in your offer letter.

Step 3 — Pay your admission deposit

Pay the required admission deposit by the deadline in your offer letter. This is the key action that secures both your place and your scholarship.

Step 4 — Scholarship is automatically applied

Once your deposit is paid and offer accepted, you will receive a Notification of Award letter confirming the scholarship, and the award will also be reflected in your Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS), used for your visa application purposes.

Step 5 — Complete online registration

During enrolment, you will receive a tuition fee invoice showing the full amount. As a scholarship recipient, manually deduct £5,000 from the total and pay only the net amount. If you have already paid in full, a refund for the scholarship amount can be requested post-enrolment.

Important: To maintain the scholarship, you must complete online registration and be classified as 'Normally Registered'. Failure to do so will result in the scholarship being withdrawn.

✍🏻 Additional Notes and Tips

  • Apply early. The deadline is 29 May 2026, but the University strongly recommends applying as early as possible. Admission offers are processed on a rolling basis and some programmes may fill before the deadline.

  • Already applied? If you have already applied for a taught Masters programme at the University of Birmingham's UK campus with a September 2026 start, you are still eligible for the scholarship, provided you meet all the other eligibility criteria.

  • Combining scholarships: This award can be held alongside scholarships from other UoB departments, but not alongside a full University of Birmingham scholarship.

  • Ambassadorial commitment: By accepting the scholarship, awardees are expected to reasonably support the University through profiles, testimonials, and ambassadorial activities when requested.
