The University of Iowa's Obermann Center for Advanced Studies invites international scholars and artists to apply for the 2025 Obermann International Fellowships (OIF). Designed to foster global academic collaboration, the OIF program offers a unique opportunity for researchers to engage in interdisciplinary projects within the vibrant academic community of Iowa City.

🗒️ Fellowship Overview

  • Duration: Flexible stays ranging from two weeks to one academic semester.

  • Location: Iowa City, Iowa, USA.

✅ Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must:

  • Be active researchers or artists affiliated with an accredited institution outside the United States or be independent scholars with a proven track record.

  • Demonstrate a research area that corresponds with disciplines represented at the University of Iowa.

  • Possess sufficient English proficiency to participate in academic activities.

  • Reside in Iowa City for the duration of the fellowship and engage with the Obermann Center's programs.

Deadline for Spring 2026 Fellowship: October 24, 2025.

Applicants should submit:

  • A curriculum vitae.

  • Desired start and end dates for the fellowship (between January 20 and May 8, 2026).

  • A research proposal (maximum 2,000 words) detailing the project's connection to the University of Iowa.

  • A one-page bibliography related to the proposal.

  • Two reference letters (required only for applicants without a Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree).

  • Proof of English proficiency (e.g., TOEFL/IELTS scores, academic transcripts, or a request for a video interview).
