The Women in Global Health Leadership Fellowship 2025/2026 is a fully funded, year-long program designed to empower early- to mid-career African women committed to advancing gender equity in global health systems. Developed collaboratively by the University of Toronto’s Dalla Lana School of Public Health, Moi University (Kenya), and the University of Cape Town (South Africa), with support from the Mastercard Foundation, this fellowship offers a comprehensive curriculum in global health policy, leadership, knowledge translation, and mentorship skills.
🧩 Program Structure
The fellowship spans 12 months and is divided into three phases:
Phase 1 (Online): Participants engage in virtual learning sessions covering topics such as global health, gender equity, policy, and knowledge translation, complemented by individual and group work, readings, and guest lectures.
Phase 2 (Hybrid): This phase includes continued online sessions and an intensive one-week in-person training featuring workshops and guest speakers. During this period, fellows are matched with mentors and receive mentorship training.
Phase 3 (Online): Fellows participate in one-on-one mentorship sessions, develop and present a leadership project, and undergo exit interviews with recommendations for future cohorts.
📚 Key Competencies Developed
Throughout the program, fellows will enhance their abilities in:
Gender Equity and Intersectional Analysis: Applying gender and intersectional lenses to health systems and research.
Global Health Policy and Advocacy: Engaging in policy development, communication, and advocacy to influence health institutions.
Leadership: Creating empowering visions, fostering collaboration, and challenging gender inequities within organizations.
Mentorship: Recognizing leadership potential, optimizing institutional resources, and promoting gender equity through mentorship.
✅ Eligibility Criteria
Applicants should:
Identify as women.
Be early- to mid-career professionals with 5–15 years of experience in health-related fields.
Hold postgraduate degrees (MA or PhD) in Public Health, Health Sciences, Health Policy, or related areas.
Work in roles focusing on public health policy, practice, teaching, or research.
Demonstrate leadership qualities through education, work, or community service.
Reside and work in Kenya or South Africa and be African nationals.
Be fluent in English and able to attend a one-week in-person training.
Have employer support to participate in the program.
