🎓 GLOCAL Scholarship Summary
Location: Hosted by a consortium of 7 universities in Europe, Asia, and Latin America (including University of Glasgow, Universitat de Barcelona, Uppsala University, Georg-August Universität Göttingen, Erasmus University Rotterdam, Kyoto University, Universidad de Los Andes).
Study Level: Master (2-year International Master’s, full-time)
Target Group: Students with strong academic backgrounds (see eligibility below) from anywhere in the world.
Fields of Study: Interdisciplinary fields: Global Markets, Local Creativities; combining economics, business, history, political economy, creative industries, urban/regional studies, sustainability, governance etc.
Scholarship Benefits:;
Full tuition fees covered for holders of Erasmus Mundus Scholarships.
Monthly stipend: €1,400 for 24 months under one option; under another option lower monthly stipend plus advance/travel/installation contributions.
Health insurance: covered.
Travel & installation costs: contributions provided.
Duration: 2 years (24 months) full time; 120 ECTS credits.

👩🏻💻 Modules / Specialisations / Curriculum
The curriculum is structured into core courses and optional courses, combined with mobility between universities and a thesis or capstone / challenge-based dissertation. Here are the highlights:
Core courses: all students take a number of core modules that give a strong base in global economic history, varieties of capitalism, globalization theory, business & governance in global settings.
Optional / Elective courses: depending on track and institution, things like Advanced Topics in Globalisation, Quantitative Analysis for International Business, Entrepreneurial Ecosystems, Doing Business in Europe, Topics in International Politics / Economics, History of Entrepreneurship, Conflict Management in Negotiation, etc.
Mobility: You will study across three partner universities over the two years (first mobility in Glasgow or Göttingen; second in Barcelona or Uppsala; third in another of the consortium partners depending on track). This allows exposure to different academic cultures and regional specialities.
Thesis / Dissertation / Final Project: Each student completes a thesis supervised by the third partner university (as per their track) or, in some tracks, a challenge-based / applied dissertation working potentially with external organisations.
Language / Other Skills: All teaching is in English. Students are encouraged to take additional language training (often free or included in tuition for some semesters), especially in the first semester.

Monthly Stipend: Up to €1,400/month over the 2 years in one option; or a lower stipend plus travel / installation advance payments under another option.
Travel, Visa, Installation Costs: Contribution provided to help with visa, relocation, residence permits, etc.
Health Insurance: Covered during the study period.
Internship / Placement Opportunities: The programme includes options for internships, industrial placements, masterclasses, case studies, guest lectures, etc.
✅ Eligibility Criteria
To apply for the GLOCAL EMJM Scholarship, you must meet a number of criteria:
Hold a first higher education degree (bachelor’s or equivalent) with strong grades (roughly equivalent to a UK 2:1 Honours degree) in one of the accepted subjects.
Specific academic background requirements for certain tracks: e.g. if you apply for tracks involving Göttingen (Tracks B, F, I), you must have completed at least 60 ECTS credits (≈ ¼ of your degree) in relevant subjects (Economics, Business, Modern History, Economic & Social History, Sociology, Politics etc.).
English language proficiency if your first language is not English; proof required.
Applicants may apply to only one study track.
Students must not have previously benefitted from an EMJM (Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters) scholarship.

Proof of English language proficiency (if required).
Passport copy (photo page); if multiple nationalities, decide which to use for application.

💡 Extra Useful Information
Tuition Fees for Self-Funding Students: If you are not awarded a scholarship, the fees for 2026-28 are approx £9,654 / €11,360 per annum for UK, EU, and Programme Associated Countries; £20,700 / €24,360 for other international students.
Number of Scholarships: Regular scholarships (~60) over four editions; plus up to 20 additional region-targeted scholarships. Also, no more than 6 full scholarships per single nationality for regular scheme.
Language Learning: All students get one free language class in the first semester at University of Glasgow; encouraged to continue language learning over four semesters.
